Conservation

The Ross Park Zoo is committed to preserving and protecting our beautiful world and the animals that live alongside us. We are committed to helping conserve and guard the dwindling numbers of endangered animals left in the wild. USDA

We take the care and well-being of our animals seriously. As a federally licensed facility, we are subject to inspection by the USDA. You can view our inspection reports, as well as those of other zoos, through the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Our customer number is 2099, and our USDA certificate number is 21-C-0018.

Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)

The AZA is considered the gold standard for animal well-being. The Ross Park Zoo remains committed to adhering to AZA standards.

The Ross Park Zoo is striving to regain our accreditation and is participating in the
AZA Pathway Toward Membership Program. Through regular meetings with an assigned AZA Pathway Coach, the zoo's staff and Board are implementing the steps needed to submit a successful accreditation application.

The AZA’s Species Survival Plan (SSP) program provides zoos with an opportunity to manage more than 300 species cooperatively to ensure their long-term survival. For facilities not currently accredited, there is a process for applying to become an official Sustainability Partner. The Ross Park Zoo is currently recognized as a
Sustainability Partner for multiple SSP Programs. We participate in responsible breeding programs to ensure the long-term sustainability of some of the species in our care.
