Visitor Services:

Responsibilities include providing courteous customer service to zoo guests, operating a cash register, completing daily documentation of days work, setting up and participation in special events; birthday parties and boo at the zoo, etc.

Applicants must be friendly, posses excellent communication skills, and willing to be flexible with a variety of job duties; including working in the goat yard.

Average hours per week 20-25 hours
Hours:9:30 to 5:15pm

Maintenance / Security:


The position will be working with the maintenance department at the Binghamton Zoo, and providing security in the evening.  Duties include: Making rounds, keeping reports, lawn maintenance, janitorial cleaning and cleanup.  Requirements: High School/GED, Valid Drivers License, Experience in maintenance or security is a plus.

Average hours per week: 30 hours

Education Assistant Intern:

• Duties include assisting with the daily care of the education animal collection, including enrichment and behavioral observations
• Interns are trained to handle animals in collection for use during scheduled programs such as birthday parties, spotlights, and Zoomobiles.
• Assist with onsite ZooSchool sessions.

Opportunities are available to gain insight into educational planning and program development. Students are expected to assist with researching information, scheduling, and assist with other office work as necessary. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills are sought out due to involvement with the public. Applicants preferred to have a background in biology or education. Must be 18 years of age or older. This is an unpaid position.

Education Media and Marketing Intern:

• Responsibilities include maintaining and updating our Facebook, Myspace, and Youtube pages.
• Helping to create Marketing campaigns for our outreach programs and special events.
• Creating promotional materials for our programs.

Interns will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and training in the fields of marketing and special events. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills are sought out due to involvement with the public and donors. Applicants preferred to have a background in Marketing or graphic design. Applicants must have computer knowledge, advance experience with web design are a plus. Must be 18 years of age or older. This is an unpaid position.
